IELTS

IELTS, or the International English Language Testing System, is a widely recognized English language proficiency test. It is commonly used for admission to universities, colleges, and other educational institutions, as well as for immigration purposes in English-speaking countries. IELTS assesses the test taker's abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. DALP consultancy has partnered with British Council and provides free registration services for students who would like to undertake IELTS exam.

Here's a brief overview of the different components of the IELTS test:

  1. 1. Listening
    • In the listening section, test takers listen to a series of recordings and answer questions based on what they hear. The recordings include conversations, monologues, and discussions on academic and general topics.
  2. 2. Reading
    • The reading section consists of three passages with increasing difficulty. Test takers answer a variety of question types, such as multiple-choice, matching, and true/false/not given, based on the information in the passages.
  3. 3. Writing
    • The writing section has two tasks
      1. Task 1: (Academic) Test takers describe visual information presented in a graph, chart, table, or diagram.
      2. Task 1: (General Training) Test takers write a letter in response to a given situation.
      3. Task 2: In both Academic and General Training, test takers write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem.
  4. 4. Speaking
    • The speaking test is a face-to-face interview with an examiner. It is divided into three parts:
      1. Part 1: Introduction and interview (general questions about familiar topics).
      2. Part 2: Long turn (test takers receive a task card and have one minute to prepare before speaking for up to two minutes on the topic).
      3. Part 3: Discussion (test takers engage in a discussion with the examiner about more abstract aspects of the topic).

IELTS scores are reported on a 9-band scale, with each section (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) receiving a separate score. The overall band score is the average of these individual scores. Different institutions and immigration authorities may have specific score requirements, so it's important to check the requirements of the organization to which you are applying.

IELTS is offered in two versions: Academic and General Training. The Academic version is typically required for university admission, while the General Training version is often used for immigration purposes and admission to non-academic training programs.
